Funerals in Mitte, Wedding, Moabit and Gesundbrunnen

We take care of bereavements in all localities of Berlin-Mitte. Collection is fast from the large hospitals such as the Charité, the Bundeswehrkrankenhaus or the Jüdisches Krankenhaus, as well as from care homes and private flats. Within Berlin an initial transfer to our premises is usually possible the same day.

Fast collection in Mitte, usually within 60 minutes

Our branch at Danziger Straße 130 is right on the border with Mitte. In an emergency we are usually with the deceased within 60 minutes: around 10 minutes to the Charité Campus Mitte, about 15 minutes to the Bundeswehrkrankenhaus Wedding, and just as quickly to care homes in Moabit or flats around Alexanderplatz. Collection is carried out discreetly and with the necessary respect, including at night and on public holidays. After the transfer to our own dignified farewell and cold-storage rooms, you have time in peace to discuss the next steps. A farewell viewing is usually possible from the following day.

Multilingual advice, essential for an international Berlin

Berlin-Mitte is one of the most international districts of the capital. We advise families in German, Russian, English and Italian and arrange additional interpreters where needed. This makes even more complex topics, such as international transfers or denominational funeral services, easy to discuss.

The death registration at the Standesamt Mitte, we handle it for you

After a death, the case must be reported to the Standesamt Mitte (Karl-Marx-Allee 31, 10178 Berlin) within three working days. We arrange the appointment and submit all documents in person for you; relatives usually do not have to visit the register office themselves. What we compile and submit: the death certificate from the certifying doctor in the original, the identity card or passport of the deceased, the birth certificate and, for married persons, additionally the marriage certificate or family record book, for divorcees the final divorce decree, for widowed persons the death certificate of the spouse. The register office usually issues the death certificate within two to five working days. As standard we order five to ten copies for you, which you need for the pension insurer, health insurer, banks, insurers, landlords and probate court. We also handle later reorders.

Which types of funeral are possible in Mitte?

For a classic burial with a small, close circle of mourners, the Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof on Chausseestraße is particularly well suited, a historic site with prominent graves from Brecht to Hegel and a quiet chapel. For urn interments, the Französischer Friedhof and the Sophien-Friedhof I offer chosen urn graves under mature trees. An anonymous interment is possible via the communal grounds of several municipal cemeteries in Mitte; we arrange the right location according to availability. Denominational cemeteries (e.g. of the Sophien or Sankt-Hedwigs congregation) have their own rules, which we coordinate with the respective parish. For a pure meadow or scattering-meadow burial we move to cemeteries in the neighbouring districts of Pankow or Friedrichshain; we organise this natural alternative seamlessly for you.

Frequently asked questions about funerals in Berlin-Mitte

How quickly do you arrive for a collection in Mitte?

Within one to two hours, around the clock. For a collection at the Charité or the Bundeswehrkrankenhaus we coordinate directly with the nursing staff.

Can we hold the funeral service at a denominational cemetery?

Yes. We coordinate with the respective parishes, both Protestant (Sophienfriedhof) and Catholic (Sankt-Hedwigs), and arrange clergy, music and floristry.

Do we as relatives have to go to the Standesamt Mitte ourselves?

No, not as a rule. We submit all documents in person at the Standesamt Mitte at Karl-Marx-Allee 31 and collect the finished death certificates for you. You hand us the original documents just once.

How many death certificates do we realistically need?

For a typical family, five to seven copies are enough: pension, health insurance, life insurance, banks, landlord and probate court. With several insurance contracts or matters abroad we recommend ordering ten straight away, which is cheaper than reordering later.

The owner appears extremely professional and dedicated. Even though I personally have no experience with a funeral home, I get the impression that he carries out his work with great care and a strong sense of responsibility. You can tell that he would do everything in his power to support bereaved families in the best possible way during a difficult time.
