The ash-scattering meadow, also called meadow burial, is a comparatively young form of nature-connected burial in Germany. Instead of at a tree, the urn or ashes are committed on a designated meadow, usually part of a maintenance-free communal grave. It is especially suited to people who prefer the open sky and a free view to the forest atmosphere.
A note on prices: Our gross flat-rate prices include all the funeral services listed here as well as all third-party costs incurred through our engagement (e.g. crematorium, shipping company, clergy, death certificates, floristry). Only the cemetery fees are shown separately. We record the binding final price in writing in your personal cost estimate.
The meadow burial follows a plain, clear process:
Meadow burials are possible on designated meadow areas at various Berlin cemeteries. The areas are maintained without individual graves being marked, sometimes with a small stele or memorial stone as a gathering point. This form of burial suits people who were connected to nature, do not want to impose grave care on their relatives and wish for an open, bright place. It is considerably cheaper than a selected grave.
We are on site 24 hours a day in all Berlin districts, whether in Spandau, Zehlendorf or Biesdorf. Afterwards we agree the suitable Berlin cemetery with a meadow area together with you. With a pure meadow burial usually not, that is its character. You do, however, receive a site plan and at many cemeteries you can request an entry on a central stele.
Yes, an accompanied committal is possible at most Berlin cemeteries. A small memorial service beforehand in the cemetery chapel can also be organised without any difficulty.
No. The cemetery looks after the meadow; that is part of the one-off fees. The committal is therefore permanently maintenance-free for the family.
