Pre-planning is an act of care

Anyone who makes provisions during their lifetime makes a decision out of love. You spare your loved ones difficult questions at the very moment when they are grieving and have little strength left for organisation and costs. Instead of uncertainty you leave clarity: your wishes are recorded, the financing is settled, and your family knows exactly what to do. Funeral pre-planning is therefore not about the farewell, but about caring for the people closest to you.

Two hands gently holding each other as a gesture of care

In five steps to secure provision

We make pre-planning as clear and straightforward as possible: 1. First conversation: free and without obligation, in person with us, by phone or at your home. 2. Recording your wishes: the type of burial, memorial service, language, music, cemetery and personal wishes are put down in writing. 3. Financing and trust: you decide between a trust agreement with a German trust association or a funeral expenses insurance. 4. Safe deposit: in a notary's custody, in your family's provision folder or with a person you trust, always accessible when needed. 5. Relief when the time comes: we carry out every wish exactly, without your loved ones having to decide under time pressure.

What you set out in your provision

Together we record: the desired type of burial (earth, urn, sea, forest or meadow burial), the choice of memorial service (Christian, secular, multilingual, quiet), the wish for a celebrant or pastor, music requests, the coffin model, the text for the mourning cards, the preferred cemetery and the list of people to be notified.

Trust account and protected assets: legally secured

Funeral provision can be financially secured by holding the intended sum in trust, separate from business assets and earmarked for your funeral. This is especially important if you receive basic income support, citizen's benefit or care assistance, or live in a care home: an appropriate funeral provision is generally recognised as so-called protected assets (Schonvermögen) and is therefore shielded from access by the social welfare office (§ 90 (3) SGB XII). Whether and to what extent this applies in your case depends on your personal situation and on appropriateness. We explain the connections openly and clearly and recommend independent advice for detailed legal questions.

Your language and tradition, set down with certainty

For many families in Berlin the farewell is closely tied to language, faith and cultural rites. In your provision we record exactly that: whether the memorial service is Orthodox, Christian, Jewish, Muslim or secular, in which language it is spoken and prayed, and which customs are to be observed. On request we advise you personally in Russian, English or Italian, without the detour of an interpreter. This ensures that your farewell later matches your origin and your faith, even if your loved ones are not familiar with German procedures.

How is the provision financed?

You can conclude a trust agreement with a German trust association; the sum is kept safe and paid out to us when needed. Alternatively a funeral expenses insurance is possible. We explain the advantages and disadvantages and only recommend what suits your situation. We do not sell insurance and advise you independently.

Pre-planning consultations in every Berlin district

On request we come to you, whether in Charlottenburg, Zehlendorf or Reinickendorf, in a flat, a care home or a senior residence. The pre-planning consultation is always free. We are there for you across all of Berlin, from the first phone call to the written cost estimate.

Frequently asked questions about funeral pre-planning

Am I bound by the provision?

No. You can change or cancel the provision at any time. With a trust sum, repayment to you is possible if you decide otherwise, less the trust fees.

Does funeral provision protect my savings from the social welfare office?

An appropriate funeral provision is generally recognised as so-called protected assets and is then shielded from access by the social welfare office, provided the type and amount are appropriate (§ 90 (3) SGB XII). Whether this applies in your case depends on your personal situation. We discuss it openly with you and refer you to independent advice for detailed questions.

What does funeral pre-planning cost?

The consultation and the written record of your wishes are always free and without obligation. How much you set aside for the later funeral is up to you, depending on the chosen type of burial and the scope of the memorial service. During the conversation we draw up a transparent, written cost framework for you.

What happens if I move to Berlin?

An existing funeral provision can usually be transferred throughout Germany. If you have made provisions with another funeral home and move to Berlin, we are happy to take over the provision, just talk to us.

Can we hold the conversation at home too?

Yes, gladly. If needed we come to your home, the care home or the hospital. The pre-planning consultation is always free.
