Grief Support Berlin

OverviewProcessCostsFAQContact

Support after the farewell, empathetic, confidential, multilingual.

Grief does not end with the committal. In the weeks and months afterwards many families need someone to talk to, support in a group or professional help. We offer free initial conversations and, on request, refer you to specialised Berlin contact points and networks, from grief groups and volunteer companions to grief therapists with health-insurance approval.

What is included

  • Free initial conversation, on site or by phone
  • Referral to grief groups (German, Russian, English)
  • Contact with grief therapists and pastoral counsellors
  • Help with grief rituals and places of remembrance
  • Counselling for grieving children and young people
  • Practical help with official errands after the bereavement

A note on prices: Our gross flat-rate prices include all the funeral services listed here as well as all third-party costs incurred through our engagement (e.g. crematorium, shipping company, clergy, death certificates, floristry). Only the cemetery fees are shown separately. We record the binding final price in writing in your personal cost estimate.

5 paths of support

Grief has many faces and needs different forms of support. We offer and arrange five paths: 1. Acute immediate help: an initial conversation in the first days after the loss, in person or by phone. 2. Individual conversations: empathetic and confidential, in German, Russian, English or Italian. 3. Guided grief groups: referral to suitable Berlin groups, depending on life situation and language. 4. Referral to therapists: in the case of greater strain, to grief specialists with health-insurance approval. 5. Rituals and remembrance work: memorial days, a memorial album, a small ceremony on the anniversary of the committal.

Taking the phases of grief seriously

Grief comes in waves. Some people function surprisingly well in the first weeks and only break down after months; others need a lot of support straight away. There is no right or wrong. We listen, help to make sense of things and step in when you can no longer cope alone at a certain point.

When professional help makes sense

When grief severely restricts everyday life, physical symptoms persist or you sense yourself that you can no longer find your way out of the grief, therapeutic support makes sense. We address this openly with you and refer you confidentially to specialists with Berlin health-insurance approval.

Grief support in your Berlin district

We come to you, whether in Mitte, Neukölln or Biesdorf, or meet you in our rooms, wherever you feel more comfortable. Grief support often also fits well with provision planning or with questions around a religious funeral. We are happy to tell you about funeral provision and religious funerals too.

Frequently asked questions about Grief Support Berlin

Does grief support cost anything?

Our conversation offers as a funeral director are free of charge. The grief groups and counselling centres we refer to often work on a voluntary basis or are subsidised; in many cases chargeable therapies are covered by the health insurer.

Can we still come long after the burial?

Of course. Some families get in touch only months or years later; grief has no fixed schedule. We remain your contact person.

Do you also support grieving children?

Yes, or we refer to specialised Berlin contact points and networks. There are very good child-friendly offers that we know from our work.
